fun books

Hello people!
Recently I just discovered something about myself. It's about books. I never like to read that much as a hobby but now I know what kind of book that I enjoy reading and would certainly love to collect. I enjoy reading or having a fun book around, I already have two book that I considered as a fun worthy book which are these two:

Wreck This Journal Keri Smith

I love this book so much because it kills my time when I was really bored one long holiday and it is really fun to have because like the name I got to wreck it. I know it is weird to buy a book just to wreck but I'm sure that you will not regret buying this book. It comes in a variety of covers but I have the red ones. I honestly think that Keri Smith made a bunch of cool and fun books you need to check out!

#88 Love Life Diana Rikasari

So this is quite different with the first one because this is a book that is inspirational. I just got it last weekend and it is so amazing. It is an illustrated book filled with the author's thoughts about love and life which I found very motivational and inspirational! Okay about the writer, she is an Indonesian blogger (link to her blog) who is passionate about fashion. She is actually very inspiring because she's not afraid to break rules of fashion boundaries and I really love that.

Those two are just the beginning of a new hobby for me and I have a list of fun books that I wish to have soon. This is the pictures of my top 3 picks:

How to be Interesting Jessica Hagy

The Wish List Barbara Ann Kipfer

Survival guide

Hey! So recently in a local news there is a story about a car accident cause by drugs and now everybody, literally everybody, talks about drugs. Well you know what? I am tired of accidents happening and suddenly that accident (rape, kidnapping, DWI, etc) is a big issue that everybody talks about. It is a good thing tough but do we really have to wait for an accident to happen?

So now I wanted to list some useful survival guide for girls because it is a familiar topic and I don't really know what to say about drugs etc so leave that to the experts (I found this website check it out if you want to) and let's get started!

Alone in a lift with a strange male
> Press all of the buttons up to your destination
By doing this the lift will stop in every floor and no one will dare to attack you. I think it is good to call a friend / family member if you are stuck alone with a strange male but everybody know that lift doesn't give the best signals.

If a stranger attacks you when you're alone in your house
> Run into the kitchen
Experts say that if you run into the kitchen there are many weapon to use and you know exactly where the locations of each items. For example knifes, utensils, plates, chili powder, etc. You can throw them towards the culprit and plus it will create noise to attract neighbors attention. If you are stuck in this kind of situation try to scream as loud as possible.

Taking a Taxi at night
> Write the registration number and details then send a text containing that information to family or friends.
I think it is crucial to do before taking a cab alone especially at night. Well I read an article about this an people say that it is even better if we give these information by a call. Even if there are no one answering just pretend having a conversation about your taxi so that the driver know exactly that his information is given to someone else.

If the driver turns into a street he's not supposed to / entering
a danger zone
> Use purse to wrap his neck or pull him back by his collar
I never experience this kind of situation before but from the same article I've mentioned, I read that we have to move fast and make protection. I think you should do it when you are really sure that the driver have that kind of bad aura. So don't attack him too fast! he might be lost of directions or something, right?

If you are stalked at night
> Enter a shop or a house and explain your predicament (if it is not opened, go inside an ATM box)
Again, I have never experience it and I hope it stays that way. I think it is good to have a third party to help you in this kind of situation, and I am sure that they will understand the situation.

Lastly, I wanted to say that the greatest weapon of all is to stay alerted. Okay, that is all of my tips (well it is not originally made by me but I think it is good tips even women should know) for today.

Be safe ladies!

Group Projects

Is it weird to hate working on group project? I don't know I don't hate it...I just don't like it. There are several reasons actually but all differ because it depends on people who I'm working with. There are many types of people who we meet when we are working on group projects. I have classified them from the past personal experiences

The Perfectionist
The perfectionist is usually great to have because they always give their absolute best but if we messed something up or didn’t fill their expectations we will probably face one of the two possible things: they got angry at us and ask us to redo it or see their unpleasant faces that screams “THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH”. Well to be honest, I am sometimes the perfectionist one but I usually didn’t get angry but give that look and re do their work by my self. But even I, a perfectionist, know people who are even more perfectionist than me.

The Commander
Like the name, this person likes to command the other group members. If we have to devide our tasks, that person will be the one who do it. It is kind of annoying in some times but it is also good in some points because having that kind of person means that we have some one to lead us. Some time I play the role as the commander when dealing with the lazy partner or with someone who don’t give a damn about the project.

The Copy-paste
Ahh the copy-paste is the most typical and I have to say that I really hate them. First of all, this really showed you that you are lazy and unaware of the word plagiarism. I think every body had met this kind of people over the years of working in groups. I must admit that I’m the kind of person who can’t say anything to these kind of people. I mean what am I supposed to say? Give a lecture about plagiarism? Well I don’t know how to handle them actually so I usually just accept it and redo it myself (this applies to project that is done by only me and that person and it is not really hard for me to do it alone…see I told you I’m a perfectionist). Or if I am working in a big group, I will probably ask the other about how to say the problem to that person.

The give-me-the-easy-part
Yep. Hate them. But just admit it people, there is always this part of you. I think we all have this part of person in ourselves but the question is whether we choose to show it or not.

The last-minute
Procrastination. That is all to say for this point.

The lazy one
The lazy one include the give-me-the-easy-part, the last-minute and the copy-paste

The panic one
The panic one is the combination between the perfectionist and the commander when dealing with the last-minute group member. The difference is that the panic one is always demanding and impatient with other group members.

The I-don’t-care-at-all
This kind of person is either don’t care about the project in general or about the part to work on. I think this is a normal type of group member but sometime annoying because they don’t always give the best for the project.

The know-it-all
I don’t know why but it is OK for me if they really know what they are saying in group meetings. But if they think they know it even though they are wrong and they still think that they are the right ones, now that is annoying. The thing that I hate about this kind of people is the fact that they think that they are always right in a discussion.

Excuses excuses
Okay before I start, I know that it might be true if your grandma died or you are stuck in a traffic jam etc but for some reason I think I just have a sense when people give a lie. I just have it, don’t you? Well sometimes it is obviously a lie BUT you can’t say anything if her grandma died the third time  or something right?

Okay there you have it. My list of people that I work with in group projects. I must say that I have been classified in all of these (depending on the occasion) so I don’t think it is fair for them if they are considered the bad guy here. And I think everybody have been classified to each of the group so I just want to say…please be nice to other people because you are sometime as bad as they are. Okay bye now I have to do my assignment.

Sincerely,
The I-don’t-care-at-all

Blog Progress

Now after working about two months on this blog, I have decided not to add the fish background idea because first of all the name of the blog mean a butterfly not fish. Secondly, I feel that it is weird to insert that because my blog will have so much different thing going on. The name is a monarch butterfly, the title is quirks and thoughts and there are fishes as a background. I think for this blog I just want it to keep it simple and clean so I decided not to add the fish background and stop calling my readers fishes (hahaha) I know it is a great idea but I almost forgot the purpose of this blog which is getting a good grade for my computer assignment thing.Okay, see you soon! (more posts coming for you)

Rejected - University Edition

Well recently, I got REJECTED by a university. Yep, it was an unpleasant experience alright. Long story short, I have been studying for the upcoming entrance test since August 2014 but unfortunately I got an email that said I am not in the short list. So that's that but now I am not here to rant about that "sad" (at least people will think so) moment and I am going to talk about how to deal with university rejection.

Before you read please mind that I am writing this to you guys who is rejected so for you guys who is still in the process of achieving it...just don't give up! because people like me envy you.

Okay the first thing you gotta do is to change your mindset.

Perfect?
Okay I need you to answer these questions: Why is it considered perfect for you? What possibly caused your rejection?
Well the answer for these questions in my case are:

1. It is perfect because they have great facilities, program, amazing scholarship deals
2. Competitive, they usually except the brightest among the bright students.

So after answering these I don't really feel it is the right place for me since it is really competitive and full of smart people with perfect report cards (which I am not). If I got in, I would not be able to catch up with the other because (it is really hard for me to admit this but it is true) they are smarter and capable to understand the material faster than me which will made me ended up with bad grades and loads of stress. So the second question is really important because it will also determine what type of student they (the university) are looking for and those people will be your classmates (a competitive and ambitious classmates in my case) so you have to think if you are not smart like the others do you feel comfortable in that environment? My answer is no! because for me choosing the right university is not only about the facilities bla blah blah but also the environment surrounding us every single day.

They don't know YOU

You know what? They don't know you. They rejected you based on paper. Maybe a SAT result, test examination paper, an essay...these things can not presented you as a whole. Even an interview can not show the whole story. They do not know how you are determine to get a better score over the years or your sacrifices when working on your portfolio. You are worth more than you think and some university do not see it but some other university will be glad to have you because well you are that awesome. So I think it is not your lost, it is their lost for not having you there.

Okay a short story from my experience, I applied to three different universities, I got rejected to the university on the top of my list but I got accepted to the other two. One of them even offered me a scholarship because I did really well on the test and they are really looking forward to have me there. So I think the perfect university for you existed! It might not be a top university in the world but it is perfect because they are able to see this side of you that other university might not able to see.

Next point...

Good university?

I think many universities want to have a smart and active student that is why we got eliminated right? because there are just some people who are smarter than us (sadly). Well once a person talked in a seminar and asked us to compare between two universities. The first university have been considered as a top university with successful alumni which is hard to get into and they only accept smart students. And the other university is a university with so so quality but they are able to transform a so so student into a successful person as well. Which will you pick as the "better" university? Well she said that the second one is better because they are able to transform a so so student into a successful person while the other accepts smart students which will most likely be a successful person no matter where they study.

I think she does had a great point and remembering her words kind of made me feel better but I still think that being successful in the future depend on ourselves and that so so university doesn't always produce successful people which brings me to the next point.

It is up to YOU
What is the purpose of getting in the university? A career in the future, right? Being successful is something that doesn't affected by the university but it depends on you. I think a top university is only good for your CV and being successful is determined by yourselves not your university. No matter how nice your university, if you don't work well in the future, you will stay as is. I always remember the phrase "All roads lead to Rome" so there is not only one way to reach your dreams so being rejected is not the end of your dreams because there are so many road that leads you to Rome.

And you know what? Show them you are capable to be successful no matter where you are studying. Make them regret it for not having you. See this rejection as a new motivation not something you cry all day long because you know what people says....

So, I hope you are all still able to smile and keep in mind that many universities will be glad to have you as a part of their community. I really hope you'll eventually find it!

Okay, good luck on your journey!
